In October 2013 Big Lottery Fund NI funded Together For You – a partnership of nine leading mental health charities to promote positive mental health in Northern Ireland.
The partnership delivered a range of mental health and well-being services to people across Northern Ireland. They helped young and old, men and women, minority groups and marginalised groups such as prisoners.
The Together For You partners are: Action Mental Health (lead), Aware, CAUSE, Cruse, Mindwise, Nexus NI, Praxis Care, Relate NI and the Rainbow Project.
John O’Doherty, Director of the Rainbow Project said: “Together For You provided us with an amazing opportunity to work with eight other leading mental health charities to try and address the inequalities experienced by our community but also to address the wider mental health needs across our society."
“Coming together means that we can share, we can learn and we can better our own organisations.”
Geraldine Morgan lost her husband in an accident. With the help of Cruse Bereavement Care she was able to deal with the new worries she faced in daily life.
“I felt that the things that were worrying me I had to keep to myself because I wanted to try to act normal for the children. It worked out that they were doing the same thing with me – but when I went to Cruse, because I was on my own and the children weren’t there, I felt able to freely talk."
“I realised I wasn’t alone and that there is help out there.
“If I hadn’t gone to Cruse, I don’t know where I’d be today. I wouldn’t be as strong as I am today.”
