This year’s Carers Week is focusing on Carer Friendly Communities encouraging everyone that we want to build and shape our communities into ones which support carers.
We are all part of a community, whether it is based on where we live, our interests or our background. Our communities include those who are unwell and need support, as well as carers who provide support.
This year’s Carers Week is focusing on Carer Friendly Communities encouraging everyone that we want to build and shape our communities into ones which support carers. As a member of a community, we want to be mindful of those who are tirelessly supporting a loved one each day and appreciate their invaluable role with our community. CAUSE works to support those who are caring for someone with serious mental illness in a unique role through providing peer advocacy services to carers in the community.
Carers Week UK explains the importance of developing Carer Friendly Communities: “By 2037, there will be 9 million carers in the UK. Many people will care for someone multiple times in their lives, but often do not think of themselves as a carer - they are just a husband or wife, son or daughter, parent or friend, doing what needs to be done… From doctors to shopkeepers, pharmacists to employers, politicians to family members - there is more that we can all do to help the people around us and build Carer Friendly Communities which support carers to lead healthy, safe and fulfilling lives.”
Carers Week is an opportunity to consider those in our community who may be caring and encourage them to access support available for themselves as well as those they are supporting.
CAUSE as part of the Together For You project offers free training and specialist carer advocacy for carers who are supporting someone with a serious mental illness. Carers can also make use of any of the other services available through the Together For You project. CAUSE also provides and supports events throughout Northern Ireland in Carers Week which are available for carers to attend including those listed below:
